It looks like Siri is about to get a major upgrade. With iOS 18, Apple is set to
introduce a new suite of AI capabilities designed to run entirely offline. This initiative not only boosts privacy but also enhances processing speed.

Apple has developed EELBERT, a system that condenses a large language model into a significantly smaller format without compromising its effectiveness. This breakthrough could make advanced AI tools more accessible on mobile devices.

Additionally, Apple is pioneering ways to interact with Siri without the traditional wake word. This could lead to smoother and more natural interactions with your device.

Further enhancing Siri’s responsiveness, Apple has introduced STEER (Semantic Turn Extension-Expansion Recognition), a new technology aimed at improving dialogue with digital assistants. This tool is designed to differentiate between follow-up questions and new inquiries, making conversations more fluid.

But there’s more on the horizon. Apple’s ambitious project, Ferret, is a multi-modal large language model that follows instructions and can also interpret and interact with various inputs, such as highlighted text or objects within an image.

Imagine a future where Siri understands your requests and perceives everything happening on your screen. This could transform your phone into a device that effectively manages itself, offering a groundbreaking leap in AI interaction.
